Lots and lots of tourists thronged this place and started gambling legally. People who visit the city of Las Vegas usually do so either to shop and spend their money or gamble their money in any of these casinos. Gambling was the most frequent hobby in this city of Las Vegas.

A short review of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada with all features and must sees. I have been in Lake Tahoe in 2007 and loved it with the Lake and bathing beaches :-). I hope you enjoy my review of Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe, a beautiful freshwater lake situated in the mountains, Sierra Nevada of USA. It is abutted between the California and Nevada. It is known as the largest alpine lake of the continent with a depth of 514 m and is regarded as the second deepest lake in USA. It is a Geologic block faulting lake with Truckee River as its primary outflow. The surface area of the lake is 191 square miles. This geological block faulted lake was created due to fracture in the crust of the earth resulting in the movement of the blocks of land. There are several high peaked mountains that were raised during the formation of the Lake Tahoe; they are the Freel Peak, Monument peak, Pyramid Peak and the Mount Tallac. The lake was formed by the melting snow from the glaciers which started millions of years ago on the mountains surrounding it. The basin is composed of soils from the volcanic eruptions and the metamorphic rocks formed. The block fault can spark off even a tsunami of the height of up to 10m. The volume of water in the lake is around 122 million acre-feet. The lake spans of the Fannette Island of California and has its settlements in the Stateline NV and the Tahoe City, CA.

The water of this lake is too good and is awed for it and also it has a picturesque panorama of the mountains on all directions. There are a number of tourist attraction, outdoor recreation spots and ski resorts on the banks of the lank. The state parks of California are located along the shores of Lake Tahoe and are protected by the Forest Service. The month of August is considered to be the warmest month and January is considered to be the coldest month near the Tahoe Lake Valley. There has been no such time when the freezing temperature hasn’t occurred in this lake area. The precipitation ranges are from 25 to 50 inches in the basin. The months between November to April are the when the precipitation occurs. The Lake basin has mixed forest of coniferous trees of Jeffrey pine, Lodgepole pine, red fir etc. The basin are has variety of areas of wet meadows, dry meadows and outcrop areas. The nitrogen fixing plants such as the Ceanothus is also found near the lake. Initially, the people living in and around the lake were the Washoe tribes. The food chain of the lake has been changes several decades ago. The opossum shrimp and the Kokanee salmon are the major part of this food chain. Mine deposits of gold and silver are found in the basin. There are gold fields and silver deposits found near the Virginia City of Nevada. This basin of the Lake Tahoe has been designated as the national park and the population of the place will be nearing 1 million in short span of time. The quality of water is the highlight of this place. Even though, the land near the Lake Tahoe is used for land planning and the sewage effluents are being treated near the basin, the lake has become rich with nutrients. This lake never freezes and the results have shown that the lake warmed at a rate of 0.015 degree Celsius every year and was due to the augmenting air temperatures and long-wave radiation.

As the construction near the banks of the lake has been causing problem in the lake’s waters, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is taking action to regulate the construction along the shore. There are many tourist spots and entertainment activity places in and around the Tahoe Lake region. There are also restaurants, casinos and ski riders to entertain the visitors of the lake. During the winter season when there is snow all over, which is called the ski season in Lake Tahoe region, many people from Nevada and California gather in the mountain slopes for participating and viewing the wonderful skiing activity in the world. The major places where skiing takes place in Tahoe Lake region are the Heavenly Mountain Resort and Squaw Valley which are the largest skiing area in the world and they are mainly the host for the winter Olympic sport of skiing. Other medium sized and small sized skiing areas are the Alpine Meadows, Diamond peak, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, and Homewood Ski Resort etc. Along with skiing activities, there is also Snow tubing, snow mobile riding and snow shoeing activities taking place near the Lake Tahoe skiing areas. The most popular sports played during the spring to early fall season are beach activities, and other water sports like swimming. Boating is the main sport played during the summer season when the lake is docked with boats. The different types of boating activities include the sailboat racing, guided cruises, firework shows on the sky above the lake etc. Bike riding on the mountain trials are found in the mountains surrounding the lake. The have different ranges of popularity and difficulty. The most popular trails for mountain bike riding is the Eagle Lake Trailhead.

Casinos and Gambling are treated legal in the Nevada side of the Lake. They have all the facilities required for the casino, right from the video machines, table games etc. The Nevada is divided into the North shore – Crystal Bay, North shore – Incline Village and the South Shore – Stateline. There are many casino and gambling spots located in these areas of the Nevada part of the Lake Tahoe.

The species of Asian Clam named – Corbicula fluminea has been found near the southeast shore of the Lake Tahoe. Some of these clams are alive and some are also dead. The different peaks and mountains surrounding the Lake Tahoe - the Mount Tallac which means Great Mountain and is also referred to as the Crystal Mountain. Mount Pluto serves as the backbone of the ski areas and was one of the last volcanic mountains in Tahoe region, Rubicon Peak is named after the Rubicon River crossed by Julius Caesar. Genoa Peak was given the name of Columbus’ birthplace. The Freel Peak is the highest mountain is the South Lake Tahoe region and was named by William Eimbeck and was also being called the Bald Mountain, Sand Mountain and was in the group of Job’s group of mountains. Mount Rose is the third highest peak at the open Sierra pass. Ellis Peak is situated behind the Homewood Mountain resort. Scott Peak also is situated in the Ski area. Duane Bliss peak is named after the lumberman of the Lake Tahoe. Similarly there are different stories related the names of different mountains surrounding the lake region.

Visitors can visit the Lake Tahoe either by plane, by car, by bus or shuttle or by train. We have the Tahoe International Airport which the foreign visitors use to commute to this place. There are many other airports in the Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay area for air travel. Mostly everyone use car transport for reaching the Lake Tahoe, it is best suited for a first time visitor of that place. As the journey would be on the mountains, it would be safe to carry snow chains along with the car. Travel by bus or shuttle is facilitated by the bus services available at different centers to the area near the lake. Trucks and Buses ply to and fro the Lake area and the hotel with moderate charges. There is the California Zephyr Train which commutes from the Emeryville in California to the Chicago in Illinois and makes a stop over near the Lake Tahoe region. There are several websites through which we can book our visit to the place and also for the boarding, lodging and the transport facilities. There are also many travel guides provided about the Lake Tahoe which gives us the clear and deep picture of the different places of interest to be visited during our trip to Lake Tahoe. I have been there once and I really liked it, that’s why I write this review of San Francisco. In the western most part of the Central America lays the sizzling city of San Francisco. San Francisco is one of the most important cities of California. It has the fourth highest population in the state of California. By the mid of 2007 the population of the city has risen by a little more than two and a half percentage when compared to it population with the strike of the millennium. The most found race in the city are White Non-Hispanic who constitute around 40% of the cities population. On the other hand the least found race is Asian Indian who constitute little less than one percent. Also the percentage of foreign born in San Francisco is around thirty seven percent which is around eleven percent higher than the state California. The population density of the city is around sixteen thousand people per square mile which is very high. Though the average age of the permanent residents of the whole Californian state is around thirty three the cities average is around thirty six and half percentage. The past eight years the house rates have been increasing in a steady manner. Around millennium it was only around $400,000 where as now the present rates are around $800,000. Living in a big city like this does have disadvantages like high prices for houses, food and necessities. But it is always been the price needed to pay to be in the heart of happening.

Talking about the climatic conditions of the city most of it residents feel that the climate never coops anyone to their home. No matter which seasons it has always been in the mild range and never gone to the extremes! If the geography of the city is seen, it is situated in the tip of the peninsula halfway. It is clear that the city has been covered by water on all three sides. So its major road ways to the near by cities like Oakland and San Jose are by a highways which run through water. This unique geography of being surrounded by water does act in a big way in its climatic conditions. These climatic changes are often in congruence with the currents from Pacific Ocean. The cold current from the ocean and the heat of the Californian lands combine to make a very pleasant climate. Freezing temperature and snow have been almost too rare to this city. So does the extreme heat in summers. The extremities are so rare, for the past century and a half, that the total has just reached double digits. Another factor which is very common in areas where the ocean and the land meet is Fog. Fog is very regular in the city during spring and early summer seasons. As the elevation of the city varies a lot the fog forms peculiar patterns with sunshine. Sometimes it cause awe striking views of nature. Though the city is only around sixty feet high from the ocean the hill in the center of the city protects the eastern residents from foggy and cold climates. So the eastern part of the city is always known for its sunnier days. All in all the climatic conditions of the city is too good to resist going out of the house. No wonder the city is sometimes called as “Air conditioned”.

Airports are the most major part of a city if it’s covered by water in most of its sides. This is why carrier operations are possible not in just one airport but a total of three airports. The closest one is the San Francisco International which is around 11 miles or 17.7 kilo meters from the city. The ID for this airport is SFO. It is the ninth busiest airport in the United States of America. The total number of aviation companies which are supported in this airport is 35. Also in within a day a whooping one thousand three hundred flights are co ordinate with ease and perfection. This airport is known for its least time consuming customs clearance and computerized advanced facilities. All this adds up to the merits of this airport makes it possible to be called as one of the finest in the world. But this airport is too busy already to support every intake for the city. So normally the load is distributed to other airports too. The next closest airport is only 16 miles from the city and is situated in Oakland. It is none other than Metropolitan Oakland International. The ID for this airport is OAK. The third airport is a bit far and is situated at Concord. The airport is Buchanan Field. The ID for this airport is HWD.

To aid easy access to the people into the city from around the areas many major highways run through such as US 101 and SR 1. These cover the transport roadways for the north and south corners of the city. Once the north and south is taken cared of the only other way is the eastern parts of San Francisco. These are covered by the Interstate 80 and US 50. All these provide excellent roadway for people to approach the city. Also for intercity travel most people prefer walking. This is majorly because of the extreme traffic which is very normal in every big city in the world. By far most of the people try to walk their way. But for areas which are a bit far there are always public transport. There are these cable cars which also act as a tourist attraction to the city. Every tourist would never miss a ride in the cable cars. Of course when everything on the road goes trifurcated people was always look down. That is for the subways. It provides an extensive amount of public transport coverage and always remains a part of the most simple and effective public transport. BART which is an acronym for The Bay Area Rapid Transit which acts as a very important train system of the city which connects almost 85% of the city with over forty stations.

Beaches are the best resort for people when it comes to sunnier days. When the city is covered by water on all three sides there is no scarcity for beaches. Its fully action packed and fun filled. The beaches in the west coast are not allowed for swimming due to the rip currents which are predominant and too dangerous for people. Also the cold pacific current makes it too cold to try a skin dip. On the other hand the beaches in the east coast are protected from the heavy wave and cold currents. Thus the east coast beaches are very well suited for swimmers. After all these fun the most important places to eat are to be noted for sure. For cheap rates Chow and helmand palace seems to be the best while vertigo and jade bar are the main action packed happy hour places. The most famous “bring your own beer” place will be naan n curry and tajine. But some feel Darbar Restaurant is also very good. For sports loving people there is always the 49ers of the NFL which stands for National Football League. The players use the candlestick park stadium as its home ground for practice. On the other side we have MLB which is major league baseball. The city team is the San Francisco Giants which has produced many well known stars in baseball. But the Giants have not yet got one World Series.

The whole economy of the city is mainly based on tourism. The city has got its fame through music and film which has made it a very popular city among all tourists. The city is considered to be the third most visited city in United States of America by the tourists who swarm to the city from throughout the world. Just last year more than sixteen million tourists turned up to the city making it highest tourism money of just a little more than eight billion dollars. Moreover with San Jose and Silicon Valley just around the corner to the south the need for finest educated officials are in high demand. To cope up with this demand the city has ventured a lot into education. Three major universities are situated in here to provide good amount of educated people who specialize in their subjects which are taught by top notch professionals. Now the city is becoming the new hub for bio technology and bio medical research centers and companies around the world are fighting their way into the city to gain a turf for themselves. Self employed firms and small companies with not more than fifteen people constitute the major business of the city. They cover over eighty percent of the city’s business. This is majorly because the retail chains and big whole sales giants are not allowed to bud in the city. This was mainly due to government’s support to protect the self employed firms which will crash other wise.

Los Angeles which is often called the City of Angels was found in the year 1781. It is one of the world’s best centers for technology, trade and culture. Los Angeles has been serving as the booster for United States’ economy. The city has a maverick shape and the total area covered by the city is nearly 500 square miles, extending 29 miles in latitudinal and 44 miles in longitudinal direction and a mountain range also bisects it. Sister Elsie Peak is the highest point in Los Angeles, which is officially called Mount Lukens. The river of Los Angeles is a seasonal river which begins from the Canoga Park, flows through Vernon and then joins with the Pacific Ocean. This is a short review of Los Angeles. I checked out most of the places when I was there :-). My next stop was Las Vegas for which I also wrote a short guide and review.

The Pacific Ring of Fire is the epicenter for the earthquakes in Los Angeles. There are nearly 10000 earthquakes occurring every year and is due to the fault lines over and under the ground. Few of these earthquakes are of low intensity and aren’t felt generally. The most accountable earth quake is the Chino Hills earthquake which occurred on July 29th 2008 and the Northridge earthquake in the year 1994. Tsunamis from the Pacific Ocean also occur and have damaged the harbor areas. Los Angeles is as subjected to the blind thrust earthquake near the metropolitan area and was discovered through the Global Positioning System observation in the NASA research study and have cited that this was due to the recharging and pumping of groundwater.

Located along the longitudes of the Mediterranean Sea, Los Angeles has a hot and dry summer and contrastingly cool and wet winter seasons, majority being summer days. This city of Angels has lot of spots for the tourists to stop and watch. They are the Walt Disney, Hollywood, China town, Griffith observatory, County Museum, Watts Towers, Capitol Records tower and many more. The demographic census has recorded over 3.7 million people residing in the city with a population density around 7877 people per square mile. The city has been inhabited by the Latin and Asian immigrants also in the recent decade. Generally, the people of Los Angeles are called Angelenos. It has been considered as the home for more than 140 countries with people speaking more than 220 different languages. The archdiocese of the country is lead by the Roman Catholic Archbishop of the city. There are many catholic churches all over the city. The second largest temple of the Jesus Christ, the Los Angeles California Temple is situated in the Westwood district of Los Angeles. It has the third largest Jews population in United States and is mainly residing in the West Los Angeles. As said earlier, the city has multi-ethnic population and practices Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism and other eastern ethnics.

The Hollywood which is the most visited hot spot in the city is the home to various clubs often visited by the celebrities; it has a huge shopping complex inside with restaurants and pubs situated among them. It has a museum of who several Hollywood pictures such as the King Kong, Jurassic Park have been shot with low cost and high technology. The major highlight of this place is the live demonstration of the car crash, floods, rains, ocean etc. These are mainly the miniatures of the set and are made to look as the real scenario in the movies. The Hollywood has the Highland center and the Kodak theatre situated inside its campus.

Another place of sight is the Los Angeles is along the beach-cities; the city has more than 50 miles of coastline with nearly 33 beaches and is the major attraction for shopping and dining activities. In these beach-cities, we are provided with all sorts of cuisines taken care of by the Mexican chefs. Most of the Hollywood celebrities - Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston visit these beach-cities for shopping.

The city has rich soil due to the beaches and mountains. The plants that grow natively in the city are the toyon, oak, poppy and the rye grass. As cited earlier, this city has been the economic booster for the continent of USA, which is mostly driven by the international trade and tourism, petroleum, technology, medicine and fashion. It is regarded as the largest manufacturing unit in the continent. The trading business mainly is done through the Pacific Rim. It is regarded as the chamber of commerce. The largest private sector of the city is the University of Southern California which is a research university with nearly 17 thousand graduate students enrolling each year and is regarded as the College of the Year 2000. Other private sector companies in the city are the 20th Century Fox, which is one of the major American film studios, Latham & Watkins – the global law firm exceeding 2100 attorneys in US, Europe and Asia, Ernst & Young which is the largest professional firms in the world and is regarded as the 7th largest private company in the United States, Paul Hastings, yet another international law firm in Los Angeles with 1200 attorneys worldwide and the Paramount pictures Corporation which is involved in motion picture production and distribution for the Hollywood. Other major companies in the county are the City National Bank, Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures Entertainment which is the parent of the Columbia Pictures, and DreamWorks which has produced successful movies like the Shrek Series. The shopping hot spots in the city are the Hollywood and Highland complex, Robertson Boulevard and the Westside Pavilion.

Most important and day to day news about Los Angeles is brought out by the Los Angeles Times, which is a Spanish newspaper. Other local newspapers are the Investor’s Business Daily, Daily News, LA Weekly, LA Business Journal etc. There are also Japanese, Chinese, Persian, Korean, Armenian and Russian language papers distributed in the city. Public transportation is very handy in the city, as the city’s metropolitan transportation authority operates a broad spectrum of bus lines, subways and rail lines in the county. This city’s subway is regarded as the ninth busiest and the railway is regarded as the third busiest in USA. Transportation by air is also facilitated by the Los Angeles International Airport which is rated as the fifth busiest commercial airport of the world. The Port of Los Angeles in south of downtown occupies nearly 7500 acres of land is called the Los Angeles Harbor.
